Beautiful

This was a comment I made on facebook and I wanted to remember it.

Beauty includes outward appearance (not to say that you don’t have that). But it is also found in character and every other part of your being that others perceive in you. Beauty does come from what others discover when they get to know you

But the most important ‘other’ to know that you are beautiful is God. If God sees you as beautiful, then your beauty exceeds that which is commended to you by your friends and family. For God to see you as beautiful is more important than if your friends and family did.

It’s a good thing that God did see Jesus as beautiful on the cross because he gives that beauty to you as a free gift. So God doesn’t see the ugliness of your sin but sees Jesus in you because by trusting in him he put your ugly sins on himself on the cross.

So to be truly beautiful, you have to first see the beauty of Jesus.

I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer
I will sing of the blood that never fails
Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed
Of death defeated and life without end.

Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counselor,
Clothed in majesty, Lord of history,
You’re the way, the truth, the life!
Star of the morning, glorious in holiness,
You’re the risen one, Heaven’s champion,
And you reign. You reign over all!

About patricious

"The only instrument by which I am made a participant in Christ’s righteousness is God’s acting through my faith. I am born into that relationship through faith alone, not through any of its fruits, like mercy and justice and love and patience and kindness and meekness and so on, which turn me into a useful person in the world." John Piper
